This week we're excited to announce that badges will now print with QR codes instead of bar codes. We've found QR codes much easier to scan under all sorts of field conditions and this update will keep your crew leaders and checkers working with less interruptions.
Starting on Friday 5/24, all badges printed from PickTrace will be formatted with a QR code. All devices are able to scan both bar codes and QR codes, but any new badges generated in PickTrace will have a QR code.
What does this mean for you?
Crew leaders, checkers, and any other device users will have an easier time scanning badges in plastic sleeves or laminated, and under the full range of field conditions. Devices can still scan existing badges with barcodes so there is no requirement to immediately replace badges.
If you are using a separate badge printing software, you can continue to download the Badge ID numbers from the Employee page to upload to your third party software. This change does not change the format of the Badge ID numbers.
This update does not require any change in settings on the device or on the web application.
Recommendations
QR codes will only appear on badges printed on or after Friday 5/24. We recommend reprinting badges and replacing bar code badges during any employee gathering: while you're handing out checks, during team meetings or trainings, or at the beginning of the work day.
